Program Change and Announcements

The Family Movie for Friday July 2 has been changed. We were originally going to show "Surf's Up". We are now going to show "Happy Feet". The movie will begin at 1:00 PM. Popcorn and drinks will be provided. You are welcome to bring your lunch.

The library will be closed on Sunday July 4 and Monday July 5 in observance of Independence Day.

100,000 Book Giveaway

Cheerios has teamed up with Jon Scieszka and First Book to distribute 100,000 new books to kids in need across the country. Through the 100,000 Book Giveaway, the five states receiving the highest number of votes will each receive 20,000 new books for local kids. Programs for the week of June 20-26

The Ohio County Public Library will be closed on Sunday June 20 in observance of Father's Day and also Monday June 21 in observance of West Virginia Day.
Story Time next week will have an ocean theme and we will be making a seal craft.
On Wednesday, June 23 at 3:00 PM we will have our Shark Zone Program. Join us for stories, songs, crafts, and games featuring sharks.
Kid's Fun Day @ Centre Market will be held Thursday June 24 at 10:00 and 11:00 AM. Our theme will be oceans.
Thursday, June 24 at 6:00 PM will be the first of our Minute to Win It programs. Children 9-12 years old are invited to attend. We will do challenges from the T.V show and have refreshments. Prizes will be awarded.

Kid's Fun Day @ Centre Market

Due to overwhelming success. Kid's Fun Day @ Centre Market has expanded to two time slots. Visit us at 10:00 or 11:00. This week is Pool Safety Week. We will have a lifeguard and a trained swim instructor talking to the kids about pool safety at 11:00.

Programs for the week of June 13-19



Monday, June 14 at 6:00 PM, we will be having a Campfire Family Storytime at Schwertfeger Shelter at Wheeling Park (the shelter across from the playground). Richard Knoblich will be sharing his storytelling talents and Bob Willits will lead us in campfire songs. Afterwards, we will roast marshmallows. There will be no Story Time at the Library on Monday because of this very special program.
Story Times this week will focus on Turtles and their habitats. Story Times will be held Tuesday at 10:00 AM, Wednesday at 10:00 AM and Wednesday at 1:00 PM.

Thursday is Kid's Fun Day @ Centre Market at 11:00 AM. Our theme for the week will be Pool Safety. Join us for a pool safety lesson by a trained lifeguard and a swim training professional provided by the Wheeling Recreation Department. We will also have stories,games, and activities. Thursday at 2:00 we will be having a Design Squad Class for children 9-12 years old. The children will be designing and building a rubber band car. Registration is required for this event. On Friday at 10:30 AM, we will have Toddler Time. We use the Mother Goose on the Loose Program which stresses nursery rhymes, songs, fingerplays, puppets, musical instruments, stories, and interactive play. This program is designed for children birth to 2 years old and is held weekly in our auditorium.

Family Movie Friday!

Story Times and Toddler Time are back!



This week begins our summer sessions of Story Time and Toddler Time. Story Time is a 45 minute long program that includes stories, games, songs, crafts, and activities. Toddler Time is a 1/2 long program specially designed for children birth to two years old. We use the Mother Goose on the Loose program which emphasizes nursery rhymes, stories, songs, musical instruments, and more.

Story Time Schedule:
Monday 7:00 PM
Tuesday 10:00 AM
Wednesday 10:00 AM & 1:00 PM
Toddler Time: Friday at 10:30 AM
Story Time on Monday June 14 will be held at 6:00 PM at Wheeling Park Schwertfeger Shelter. Bob Willits will provide campfire songs and Richard Knoblich will be the storyteller for the program. We will conclude with marshmallow roasting.
There will be no Story Times on Monday June 21 in observance of West Virginia Day and Monday July 5 in observance of Independence Day.

SMART Science Center Program



On Monday, June 7 at 6:00 PM Robert and Libby Strong of the SMART Science Center will present a program at the Ohio County Public Library. Join us for science fun focused on water. The program is free and open to the public. Hope to see you there!

Summer Reading Registration has begun!


Stop in to register for this year's Summer Reading Program. Our theme is "Make a Splash-READ!". Children are asked to set the goal of 8 hours of reading from the time they register until August 11. Every week, children can bring in their time log to receive a small prize and to hang a fish with their name on it on our Wall of Readers. Everyone who completes the reading goal will receive a ticket to attend our Finale Party on August 13 at Wheeling Park's Swimming Pool. Throughout the summer, there will be lots of fun programs as well as Story Time, Toddler Time, and Kid's Fun Day @ Centre Market.
