Summer Reading Program Kick-Off!
On Monday June 1st at 6:00 PM, the Ohio County Public Library will kick-off the Summer Reading Program with a performance by Pittsburgh native, Gregory Gibson Kenney. Mr. Kenney will portray Louis Armstrong in "Satchmo, The Life of Louis Armstrong". The program is sponsored by the Children's Department, but everyone is invited to attend. Continuing with the theme "Get Creative @ Your Library" other programs for children and adults will be presented throughout the summer.

June 19th 3:00 PM (ages 4-8) Puppet Presentation of Hansel and Gretel
Children 9-12 are invited to come to library at noon for puppet making, pizza, and practice and will put on our puppet theater at 3:00

Get Creative @ Your Library Summer Reading Program 2009
Join us as we travel through the decades to discover what "Get Creative" really means.
Week of June 1st-The 1920's
"Chews" a Good Book-Bubble gum was invented.We'll make some of our own.
Week of June 8th-1930's
Reading is "Super"-Superman was created. We'll be reading about superheroes.
Week of June 15th-1940's
"Ice Cream" for Books-The first Dairy Queen opened in the 1940's. We'll make some ice cream to share.
Week of June 22nd-1950's
Reading "Round" Up-The hulas hoop was invented. We'll have some fun and games to "round" out the first half of our summer reading program.
We will take a break the week of June 29th. No Story Times this week.
Week of July 6th-1960's
"Brighten" Your World with Books-Color television was invented. We'll learn about mixing colors through some fun activities.
Week of July 13th-1970's
"Paws" to Read-This is pet (and pet rock) week. Make your own pet rock to take home.
Week of July 20th-1980's
"Pop" Open a Good Book-You mean there was popcorn before microwave popcorn? The first microwave popcorn was sold in the 1980's.
week of July 27th-1990's
Books are "Uplifting"-Know what else is uplifting? Mentos and Diet Coke! Don't believe me? We'll prove it this week!
